This month’s GREEN home tip is about Compact Fluorescent Lighting (CFL). While most people know that they conserve energy, most do not realize how much. On average, each CFL bulb uses 75% less energy than the standard incandescent bulb, will save an estimated $30 on energy costs over its lifetime and lasts 10 times longer. When you look at home lighting comprising 8-10% of overall energy costs, you can see how much these will reduce your energy costs. There have been some newer designs of CFL’s that look much more attractive than the most common coil type bulbs. For information on which colors to use in areas of your home, please see this interactive guide http://www.drmediaserver.com/CFLGuide/index.html
